How To Pack Your Camden Removal Boxes Before A House Move
Posted on 01/09/2014
Packing is one of the arts of removals Camden that everyone seems to forget until they have to actually do it. In a way, this makes sense, it’s not as if it’s a part of your everyday thought processes, so why would you ever learn how to do it properly? Despite this, it can be the difference between your move being an easy and calm affair, and the whole thing being a disaster. Packing can make all the difference, as if you do it well, then no matter how badly handles a box is (to a certain extent) your items should be safe. The main hindrance in the process is that it takes absolutely ages to do a thorough job, and often, people just don’t have the time, so things are done in a haphazard way, which can result in breakages that could have been avoided. We’ll give you a complete run down as to how to pack your Camden removal boxes before a move.
Start by buying quality materials. You may well be tempted to buy second hand boxes, but this can be dangerous. Only buy second hand boxes that have not been used, as previous use can mean that the structure of the boxes are compromised, which can result in collapse when being stacked, which is obviously a disaster. New boxes will be perfectly rigid, and will have perfect taping edges, so there is less chance of any tape coming undone, which is obviously a plus. The last thing you want is to spend a load of time packing everything up carefully, and then finding that a box falls open at the bottom while being carried, smashing everything inside! But a couple more rolls of tape than you think you will need, as it can be useful around the house if there is any left over, and it always runs out before you expect it to! Alongside this, you will need some bubble wrap, newspaper and tissue paper, as well as marker pens, spare cardboard and perhaps even some plastic wrapping sheet.
When wrapping up fragile items, the best course of action is to use bubble wrap, but sparingly, as you don’t want to overfill the boxes with wrapping, as this wastes space and boxes. Place things in the boxes so that they fit together nicely, preventing as much movement as possible, as this will help things to stay put and not rattle around in the boxes, which can cause breakages. If you have glassware or china in a box together and there is not protection between the items, then the rattle of the van can cause them to shake together, and mark or smash each other. With plates and mugs and other porcelain that is a little tougher than glass, you should only need a layer of newspaper between each item. Be careful however of using actual newspapers, as the ink can stain certain materials, ruining them.
Fill any spaces between items as carefully as possible, so that again, nothing moves about. Scrunched up paper is great for this. Tape up your boxes as thoroughly as possible, so that there is no risk of them coming apart while being carried, and so that they maintain their structure when being stacked in the van. You can imagine the kind of damage that a stack of fully loaded boxes can cause if it fell over in a loaded van!
We hope these hints and tips lead to a happy house move Camden for you and your family!
