Packing for your Watford Home Removal
Posted on 02/09/2014
The packing process is an important one when you decide to move all of you belongings from your Watford home and to your new property. Not paying attention to your packing or leaving it to the last minute could result in some of your belongings getting damaged during transit to the new property.
Here are some basic rules that you need to follow to properly pack your things in safe and secure manner:
• Leave plenty of time to complete your packing. If you rush your packing you run the risk of not protecting your things properly, not considering where the best place to pack something is, not taking into account the stability of the box when it is carried or the weight of the box and whether it can be lifted, for example.
• Packing is a perfect time to de-clutter and get rid of some of the things that you no longer want or need. Remember, when you pay a Watford removals company you pay for the amount of things that you are moving, therefore, if you are taking things to the new house that you are eventually going to throw away, you are wasting money.
• When you pack, consider how you are packing. Anything heavy should go at the bottom of the box and the weight should be distributed evenly throughout the box, this will ensure better stability when the box is being carried. Also think about what you are packing in what boxes, avoid putting anything fragile in a box with something that could potentially damage it. Pack things together in a box that are going to be placed together in the new house, this will make unpacking much easier.
• Consider whether you have any specialised items, things like a grand piano or a grand-father clock, these may need additional and special protection and extra securing during transportation, if you are unsure how to properly wrap and protect anything specialised research it in plenty of time so that you can be sure you have all of the material you need.
• When you have filled a box, ensure that it can be closed and taped shut and that there are no bulges anywhere, overfilling a box is one of the main reasons for damages. If there is any free space inside the box use some foam peanuts to fill the space, this will help to stop your things moving around inside the box and potentially getting broken.
The packing process:
• Before you start packing make sure you have all of the materials that you need, here is a brief list (that you may want to add to if you have any specialised items):
o Cardboard boxes (of various sizes)
o Bubble Wrap
o Foam peanuts
o Packaging tape
o Permanent markers
o Assorted labels (such as ‘this way up’ and ‘fragile)
• Choose a room to start with and work your way through the room, packing or throwing things away.
• Every time you fill a box and seal it, you should label it with the contents and the room that it needs to go into in the new property. You should also add ‘this way up’ and ‘fragile’ stickers where appropriate so whoever loads and unloads them from the van knows to be careful when moving it and secure it properly in the van, and also knows not to load something heavy on top of this box.
• Store full boxes out of the way and continue with the Watford packing process in the next room of your home.
