Posted on 02/09/2014
Moving to the area of Bow in London and worried about the packing process? You really shouldn’t be – packing might be a mechanical process, but being a straight forward kind of process is what makes it manageable to so many people who move house every day. There are plenty of packing tips which can literally save the day. Here are some of the best ones which you can utilize.
• Gather all your packing supplies, tools and materials before you start packing. It’s much easier to be well-prepared for the whole process, than to stop half-way through the packing when you run out of materials.
• When you are packing the cardboard moving boxes, they shouldn’t be heavier than 50 pounds, or it will be too hard to lift and carry them when loading and unloading the moving truck. Even if you have hired movers, you need to be considerable, as a heavy box is still a heavy box. Moreover, even the sturdier moving box can tear up if you overload it.
• Ensure that each moving box can be easily closed and sealed after being fully packed.
• Place heavier items on the bottom of the boxes and place the heavier boxes on the bottom of the moving truck.
• Mark the boxes properly: this way up, fragile, open first, the room they belong to, etc. With proper labeling the unpacking process will be quick and easy and you won’t waste valuable time going through each box looking for a specific thing.
• The top of each moving box has to be flat, or the box can tear up easily during the loading and unloading processes.
• Fragile items can be wrapped in layers of bubble wrap or in packing paper. For extra fragile items use socks and linen to stuff them inside. The more padding, the better.
• Use packing tape or straps for loose items, so you keep them together.
• Pack similar items together and pack room by room and box by box if possible.
• If you have to move liquids, pack them in sealable containers or plastic bags. Always use waterproof bags and place such items upright in the boxes.
• Check for restrictions for items that are hazardous and you shouldn’t pack for the moving truck.
• Don’t pack valuables in the moving truck, but keep them in your own vehicle.
• Use specialty boxes for electronics, glassware and china and artwork. Fragile items that have a considerable monetary value require specific handle and care.
• Tape down any lids and doors and items that might move during the transportation.
• When you disassemble furniture, make sure you keep all bolts, screws and other loose items in a sealable bag that is packed together with the furniture.
• Keep the tools that you need for assembling the furniture in your own vehicle.
• When packing linen, blankets and pillows don’t use the standard garbage bags, because they are not strong enough. Buy thicker ones, which can hold the heavy blankets.
• Use enough padding on the bottom of the boxes that are full of fragile items which can easily break during the transportation. Fill the voids with linen, towels and socks.
• Plan the packing well in advance – prepare a schedule and a checklist and make sure everyone in the family is helping out.
